THU DANG: Welcome back to ABC News Radio with me, Thu Dang. As we have recently heard about the launch of Beyondblue Bedtime Stories Collection - the campaign to open up discussion between parents and children regarding mental health issues. Today, I have the exclusive interview with Minh Nguyen, the Communication Leader of this project. He will share with us some essential information related to the campaign. Good morning, Minh.
MINH NGUYEN: Good morning Thu. It is my pleasure to be here.
THU DANG: Let's head into our discussion. Now as I have known, beyondblue decides to promote the collection by Bus Tours across Australia, isn’t it?
MINH NGUYEN: Yes, that is correct. Along the tours, we will have the campaign ambassador as well as our crew to host discussion about mental health of pre-schoolers. Furthermore, we will showcase the Beyondblue Bedtime Stories Collection, and instruct parents to engage the kids with the stories. The event is open for all parents to join.
THU DANG: It sounds so well-organised! So can the parents bring their kids along?
MINH NGUYEN: Unfortunately, we do not recommend parents to bring their children along. The reason for this is, the content of the discussion is quite heavy for educational and instructional purposes. We really hope to equip the parents with crucial information and fundamental knowledge regarding this issue, and to highlights the importance of engaging with their kids. Also, there will be activities to help them get along with using the stories, which require participation from every parents.
THU DANG: I totally agree. So I'm just wondering, because the bus only stops at each suburban for three days, what if the parents failed to attend the event?
MINH NGUYEN: There is no need to worry about that. The cameraman from our crew will ensure that every event is recorded. We will choose the one with best quality and publish it on our website. In addition, we will upload a series of videos instructing the parents how to use the collection.
THU DANG: Wow! beyondblue sure have everything well-prepared for this campaign. Now, I would like to know more about the collection itself. Is it applicable to use for other time during the day?
MINH NGUYEN: This is also something that I want to highlight. The Collection can also be used by the educators, for example before kindergarten afternoon nap, or even story-telling time in class.
THU DANG: That's great, since educators play an impactful role in every kid's life. Ah.. now this question might be quite tricky. But I believe with the differences in terms of social and cultural background, each parents will have their own way to interpret the stories. Will this be a challenge?
MINH NGUYEN: No worries Thu, actually when we developed this campaign, we also asked ourselves the same question. The solution for this lies in every last page of every story. We will provide the parents with a clear guideline, consists of some key terms and meanings behind every story. Furthermore, as I have mentioned earlier, we will upload a series of videos instructing the parents how to read the stories on beyondblue website.
THU DANG: That is absolutely amazing, Minh! I can't wait to participate in this campaign! For the last questions, how much does it cost for each book and where can the parents collect the stories?
MINH NGUYEN: Since the collection is a joint effort between beyondblue and the government – it has been published by the Department of Health of the Commonwealth of Australia, it will be offered at an affordable price ($1 per book) at every bookstore across Australia to ensure its accessibility. In addition, we will also provide each kindergarten with a certain amount of the collection so that the educators can use it.
THU DANG: This is a joyful news! Thank you for your time and the information you have brought us. This is Thu Dang and see you in the next ABC News Radio. Have a cosy day everyone!
